My gut feel is if you sold each coin to a different individual, the CRA may consider the set broken. The Blunt Bean Counterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11358868550072516313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4402283548766807872.post-84914362808977586312022-10-02T00:09:08.510-04:002022-10-02T00:09:08.510-04:00If you sold each coin in the set to a different in...If you sold each coin in the set to a different individual, then it sure looks broken to me. I wonder what the CRA thinks. Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4402283548766807872.post-17920320078010028642012-07-10T14:37:33.998-04:002012-07-10T14:37:33.998-04:00Thx Rob:

It would appear to me that those sets could be unbreakable sets. The Blunt Bean Counterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11358868550072516313noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4402283548766807872.post-29903799823784705172012-07-10T14:34:57.587-04:002012-07-10T14:34:57.587-04:00Michael--very philosophical of you. You can sell individual coins for less than $1K and avoid paying capital gains. No collector would consider a coin collection a whole anyway, as each piece was probably acquired separately (unless it was inherited or bought at an estate auction). This is exactly the kind of thing that Waddington's 'Transitions' experts specialize in handling. Just hang on, and I will have one of them weigh in here with their two cents.robhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14934159418646747117noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4402283548766807872.post-82094463875753957252012-07-09T21:03:35.014-04:002012-07-09T21:03:35.014-04:00The ruling would seem to tip things in favour of n...The ruling would seem to tip things in favour of non "set-ness".
